No one taught black people to have empathy for one another, but we expect others to have empathy for our struggles. You don't allow yourself to give your sister empathy for trying to be the rock of the family when our black men are absent. You don't allow yourself to give your brother empathy for being more of a target than any other group. All struggles require coping skills and unfortunately, most of ours have been negative and unhealthy; thus, some of us developing such anger and hate. We haven't allowed the community as a whole, the permission to compete with big name brands so that we can build ourselves. Change begins with us and without empathy, we will not begin to heal OR grow.
